My role: Mobile development in KMP (Android side, native UI) and connecting the mobile app to the backend. Taking on leadership of the dev team: client coordination and tracking team progress.
- Kotlin Multiplatform
- Jetpack Compose
- Canvas LMS API
Problem
Tecsup students face 3 recurring problems that directly affect whether they pass:
- They don’t know if they’re on track. With 4 practicals + 8 labs (each averaging 2 grades), by mid-term the student has no clear picture of where they stand. Often they find out when there’s barely any time left to catch up.
- They can fail from absences without noticing in time. The absence limit (5, to be confirmed) means automatic failure regardless of grades. Since it’s hard to track manually, many students realize too late.
- Deadlines slip through, not from carelessness but from disorganization. Forums, labs, and practicals are scattered across the virtual classroom, email, and verbal announcements, so checking what’s due means checking several channels.
All 3 problems recur throughout the term and directly affect passing rates — that’s why they were prioritized for the MVP.
Constraints
- MVP stage, in construction and validation with real students.
- Integration with one student’s Canvas (LMS) API for initial testing.
- Context: Tecsup.
Architecture
Kotlin Multiplatform (shared logic and UI), with native Android UI via Jetpack Compose. The assistant connects to the Canvas API to pull real academic data (grades, attendance, deadlines) and to the project’s own backend.
Decisions
- KMP to share logic across platforms without sacrificing native UI, same rationale as AlphaKids.
- Prioritized the 3 pain points validated with real students for the MVP scope, instead of building speculative features.
My role
8-person team. Mobile development in KMP, Android side, with native UI. I’m also taking on leadership of the dev team: client coordination, tracking team progress, and connecting the mobile app to the backend.
Result
Project in construction, validating the MVP with one student’s Canvas API, for Tecsup.
